Simple Pleasures

Well, if everyone else is doing it... =), here's my list of simple pleasures. I could seriously go on for days, but I think I've complied quite a list already.

new pajama pants
balancing my checkbook
grocery shopping
bubble baths
thunderstorms
clean sheets with a hint of bleach
burt's bees pomegranate lip balm
finding a new song with perfect lyrics
snow cream
finding things on sale
afternoon naps
warm socks out of the dryer
making my bed every morning
lazy sunday afternoons
honeysuckle-rain dish soap
crossing off items on my to-do list
riding with the windows down
clipping coupons
good grades
finding jeans that fit
a clean kitchen
snickerdoodle cookies
browsing at Pier 1
fresh cut flowers
listening to rain
hammocks
canceled classes
dr.pepper
my chicken alfredo
sunlight
one tree hill reruns
afternoon baseball games
apple butter
O'Charleys rolls
the cool side of my pillow
driving early in the morning, while it's still dark
smell of J&J's baby shampoo

Just thinking of these things makes me smile!

A Joy That Jumps Over Sadness

This has been a rough week and I came across this song by Kim Walker tonight. It was such an encoragement and brought me back to a proper outlook on life. I would almost dare say it is my current favorite, and that's a big deal. Lyrics below.

I have found a peace that plows on through the storm
I have found a joy that jumps over sadness
I have found a love that lights up every room
I have found...I found You

You are all i want, You are all i need
Everything my heart could hope for
We are longing for the glory of the Lord
Cause we know there's so much more

I have found a trust that teaches how to rest
I have found a grace that guides me by the hand
I have found a strength that stands like a mountain
I have found...I found You

...Snow...

We woke up Tuesday morning to a few inches of snow and it continued snowing throughout the day. It was so pretty here and made for lots of great pictures! Snow like this only happens about every other year, so we were outside by 8:00 am taking full advantage of it.

Whitney and Shannon found a wonderful place on the edge of campus to go sledding. We had so much fun sliding down the hill on old lunch trays! None of us were very prepared as far as snow clothes are concerned, but we endured the wet/cold for a few hours because it was great! I was very, very sore the next morning but it was well worth it.

Cancelled classes came at the best possible time. I was in desperate need of a catch-up day. I got some work done, but spent most of the day outside sledding, taking pictures, having snowball fights or collecting snow for snow cream. Snow cream is way up there on my favorite foods list. Like, way up there haha. We got about 5 inches total. Most of it has melted away now, but I wouldnt mind if it snowed again...soon!

Too Much Information

I've seen this on so many blogs lately and have really, I mean really, enjoyed reading them so I suppose I tag myself, and Marah later, to post lots of random information that most people may not know. So here goes more than you ever wanted to know about me...

- I absolutely love dark, rainy days.

- I hope to have many children one day, maybe 5 or 6. I think big families are really exciting.

- Other than my roommate, I am the most indecisive person I know.

- Speaking of roommates, I have the best one, ever!

- I am a grammar freak and probably too harsh on those who are not.

- I get my feelings hurt very easily, it's insane.

- I'm not a depressed person, but sad songs have always been my favorite.

- I very recently decided that I do want a tattoo, but in white ink. I said I would never, but that was until I saw one. Never say never.

- I have always wanted to take photography classes. That dream died when my parents told me I couldn't go to school for that. So I settled for something much more exciting. Accounting.

- I intend to travel somewhere outside of the country before I graduate. Which means I need to get a passort, soon!

- I took 4 years of Spanish in high school and seriously regret not continuing to learn the laguage here at Campbell because I have forgotten the majority of what I knew.

- I care way too much about what people think about me. Worrying about every word I say and move I make is really a hindrance to functioning normally, I think! I am improving though!

- Although I am only 19, I feel the need to get married quickly approaching. That could be a problem.

- I have yet to make anything other than an A while in college. But I know that sad, sad day is
coming soon.

- I misspelled the word poisonous in the 4th grade spelling bee and 10 years later, it still makes me mad.

- I buy buy books compulsively! It's so easy to get carried away on amazon or in Lifeway.

- Taylor Swift lyrics pretty much describe everything I have ever felt toward guys in my life.

- I am becoming obsessed with saving money and finding good deals. I am one of those "brings her calculator to the grocery store to get the most for her money" kind of women.

- I don't handle change very well. Although I know change is necessary sometimes, it is most always painful.

- Regardless of what anyone says, I am always right ; ).

20 things wasn't all that hard. Now it's your turn!

Life In Lyrics

This wasn’t my idea, but I thought it was such a great one that I had to steal it. Music is so very important to me, kind of like my personal expression outlet. So here goes some of my most favorite songs…

Cause I'm not who I was When I took my first step
And I'm clinging to the promise You're not through with me yet
so if all of these trials bring me closer to you
Then I will walk through the fire
If You want me to

It may not be the way I would have chosen
When you lead me through a world that's not my home
But You never said it would be easy
You only said I'd never go alone
I am most certainly not who I was “when I took my first step” with Christ, and the promise that He isn’t through with me yet is my greatest hope for the future. It’s amazing to see how far I have come but still have so far to go. He never said it would be easy, comfortable, convenient, or without pain. He simply promises us Himself, and I long for the day when I can wholeheartedly say that He is indeed enough.

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times so take a good look around
You may not know it now but you're gonna miss this

How about I cried the first time I heard this song… it was a day when I was missing home so much and felt so guilty for being so eager to leave home & come to college. And now I want it back. Life was great, and I took so much of it for granted. Now I’m here at college and can’t wait to get back every week. But it also makes me think about this time in my life. I’m trying more and more to just live in the present, not obsessing over the past or the future. I fear I will regret wishing this season of my life away. When else will I be this free to go and come as I please with minimal responsibilities? I’m working toward contentment, it’s just not easy.

I know if I let you back in
It's the same thing all over again
You'll just hurt me, you'll just hurt me
I know that it's wrong and the pieces don't fit
Loving you baby will never make sense
And I know that I'm crazy for letting you let me cry
But it still don’t stop me…

Self-explanatory? I had to put this one up just because it’s my new favorite. I’m pretty sure its been played 25 times more than any other song on my iTunes. Every word fits. It’s always the same. I always get hurt. And never learn. Well, I do learn. But it doesn’t stop me. “the heart is deceitful above all things, who can understand it?”

There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring Him praise

In the chaos in confusion
I know You're sovereign still
In the moment of my weakness
You give me grace to do Your will
When You call I won't delay
This my song through all my days
I could sing the Hillsong version of this song all day. All day. It is such a comfort to know he is sovereign and he is in control even when it seems that life is falling apart. Even then and in good times, there is none but Jesus. If you’ve never heard the song…playlist it now!

Picture Post

Roomies. After Mi Casita. Which was great.

Sunny afternoons outside in the grass...simply amazing!

Ok, picture post with a few words. This week started out wonderfully. Wednesday comes, and brings incredibly painful corneal abrasions, major tests, lots of tears, and a grandparent in the hospital. One of those "why me?" weeks. But, now that my "corneal abrasion" (my new favorite term) is on its way to healing and I no longer have that dreaded eye patch OR pain, tests are over, granddaddy is doing better, along with the fact that tomorrow is Friday makes me one happy girl. = )

was that joy?

Joy, indeed. I hadn't felt it in a while, but it was here today. One exam, 40 hours, and lots of packing left and I am done with my first year of college. Away from Campbell I'll speed. I can not wait to get out of this place. I love my dear roomie but not this box we call a room, not this place they call college, and not this 80 mile from home thing. I need my job back, I need my family back. I long to return to what was "normal" a year ago. But I don't think thats the way life goes.

I suppose this will be my last blog as a college freshman, and though I like to complain about it a lot, if I was being honest I would say it was rather enjoyable. I was blessed with an amazing roommate who has grown into my best friend, and for that I am incredibly thankful. We have made so many memories, really good ones, laugh-till-you-cry-funny ones. Life in this "box" has been good. I am also so thankful for a daddy willing to pay for gas for me to drive home every weekend.

But back to the joy part...that (going home!!) is only the beginning of what has my day so glorious thus far. After a lazy morning and an amazing afternoon nap, we did some packing and then headed to Dunn. Washed my car at a sketchy car wash, went to Wal-Mart, visited the coolest nursery where I bought some pretty neat Crocs, then to our Dunn favorite: Cracker Barrell. And ate for free. Talk about exciting. haha. It was simply a great night with the roomie. Well, until i was "beasted" in a game of checkers outside and corrected by an older man when I asked for his opinion on some rules of the game. Marah liked that one right much. Today was just peaceful, slow-paced amazing day. I got to spend time thinking and reading the Word this morning which I was in desperate need of. Summed up, today was a breath of fresh air.

And as I end this, I'm sad. Story of my life. Oh, what is wrong with me?
I'm growing up. Life is changing and so are the people in my life. And I don't like it one bit. Ahh but thats another blog entry for another day. I'm listening to "Everything Changes" by Staind, which is amazing, but not contributing to my mood. And now "Wait for You" playing. Oh dear.

Thats all. I must go to sleep now. Raven Rock Park early in the morning!
